Sourcing strategy, transformation, supplier relationship assessment for Taylor Wimpey plc, a FTSE 100 UK-focused residential developer which also has operations in Spain.  Taylor Wimpey's vision is to become to the UK's leading residential developer for creating value and delivering quality.


The challenge 
  • Taylor Wimpey was approaching a renewal point in their existing IT full-spectrum supplier relationship across infrastructure, applications and telecommunications.

  • The objective was to drive a significant increase in innovation, responsiveness, flexibility and value delivery and move to a best-practice contract and supplier management framework.

  • This was to be achieved either by transforming the relationship with their existing supplier or by going to the market if more beneficial.


How Quantum Plus helped 
  • Reviewed approach and project plan for engaging with the existing supplier in order to achieve the required transformation in relationship, contract and supplier management framework.

  • Evaluated alternative sourcing options including going to the market, multi-sourcing and insourcing.

  • Developed a comprehensive ‘step-up’ requirements document for the existing supplier which covered scope change, service transformation, restructuring of SLA, extended commercial deal principles and relationship improvement.

  • Managed and assessed the supplier proposal via response templates, presentations and workshops.

  • Developed and drafted the new contract and key schedules, working with lawyers and the client as appropriate.

  • Introduced key features such as improved benchmarking, a relationship performance scorecard with ‘teeth’, a multi-level preferred supplier status model and improved exit management with regular exit testing.

  • Negotiated the contract and schedules, working closely alongside the client.

  • Benchmarked the supplier response against the market across price, service and commercial terms.

  • Developed and supported Board presentations to obtain approval for the new arrangements.

  • Set up the new supplier management framework to drive improved supplier performance and added value going forward.


The outcome 
  • The required transformation of the existing supplier relationship and contractual arrangements was achieved without the need to go to the market.

  • The new arrangements have been benchmarked as in line with market best practice and will deliver significant added value over the coming years.
